Theft of my iPhone

Configure your iPhone so you can take action in case of theft or loss.

Enable “Find My iPhone”: This will allow you to locate the location of your iPhone in case of loss or theft. You can enable this feature in the settings of your iPhone by going to “Your Name” > “Find My” > “Find My iPhone”.

Enable encryption of your iPhone: This feature encrypts the data stored on your iPhone, which means that if your phone is stolen, personal information cannot be easily accessible. You can enable encryption by going to “Settings” > “Touch ID & Passcode” > “Encrypt iPhone”.

Make regular backups: You can backup your data to your computer or to iCloud to avoid losing it in case of theft or loss of your iPhone. You can enable iCloud backups by going to “Settings” > “Your Name” > “iCloud” > “iCloud Backup”.

When you have lost your iPhone or it has been stolen, here are the options you have:

Lock your device: use another Apple device or iCloud to remotely lock your iPhone. You can also call your mobile operator to deactivate your SIM card to prevent the thief from using your device.

Report the theft to the police: Report the theft of your iPhone to local authorities. You will need your serial number and identity to provide information to the police.

Locate your iPhone: If you have enabled “Find My iPhone” on your device, you can use iCloud to locate the location of your lost or stolen device. If you did not activate it before the theft, you cannot use this feature.

Erase your data: If you have sensitive data on your iPhone, you can use “Erase iPhone” to remotely delete all your personal information. This feature requires that you have activated “Find My iPhone” before the theft.

Change your passwords: Change all your passwords, including your iCloud account and all associated apps. This will help protect your identity and personal information.

Call your mobile operator: Inform your mobile operator that your phone has been stolen and ask them to block your SIM card. This will prevent the thief from using your phone with your SIM card.

Regarding the security of your data, if you have enabled encryption on your iPhone, the thief cannot access your information without your passcode. However, if the thief manages to access your iPhone and disable encryption, they could potentially access all your personal information.

How to encrypt data on my iPhone?

Go to the “Settings” of your iPhone.

Click on “Touch ID & Passcode” (or “Face ID & Passcode” if you have a newer iPhone).

If you haven’t already set a passcode, click on “Turn Passcode On” and follow the on-screen instructions to create a passcode.

Once you have set your passcode, enable the “Encrypt iPhone” option. If this option is already enabled, you won’t need to do anything else.

You will be prompted to enter your passcode to confirm that you want to enable encryption on the iPhone. Enter your passcode and click “Turn on Encryption”.

Your iPhone will then begin to encrypt the data stored on the device. The encryption process may take some time depending on the amount of data stored on your iPhone. You can track the progress of the encryption by checking the progress bar.

Once you have enabled encryption on your iPhone, all data stored on the device will be encrypted. This means that if your phone is stolen, personal information cannot be easily accessible without your passcode. It is important to note that if you forget your passcode, you will not be able to retrieve the encrypted data on your iPhone.
